Since I couldn't find a device akin to a lens foot common to telephoto lenses, I came up with an alternative way to keep the P1000's center of gravity more closely aligned over the central axis of the tripod when the lens is fully extended. One can almost see it in comparing the first two pictures. Even with the lens axis aligned over the front leg of the tripod, the shift of weight forward caused the aiming point to dip down perceptibly. Something was immediately apparent when the lens was fully extended. Here are images of the P1000 mounted on the tripod. I don't use the camera to shoot video so I bought a tripod without a ball head but which could be panned. This came in very useful when doing bird and wildlife photography. This post is less about whatever tripod you decide upon and more about how it behaves when the P1000 is mounted and its lens is fully extended. However I did find that the load capacity of 7.6lbs was more than enough, even when using my Nikon D3300 and a 600mm lens. But where the real big difference occurs is in the maximum load capacity which is almost three times as much with the Neewer. One draw back to having the aluminium vs the carbon fiber is that this tripod actually weighs more. One of the biggest differences however is that this tripod is made out of aluminium as opposed to carbon fiber.

Next up on my list is a great offering by Zomei, which too be honest, is almost identical to the above Neewer tripod. At the end of the day, this is only a personal preference, so I can’t mark it down for this. The only real grudge I had with this tripod, if you could call it that, was the twist locks instead of the level locks. Viola! A sturdy tripod right at my finder tips! I simple removed one of the tripod legs and attached the central column. What I also really dug about this tripod was the ability to morph it into a monopod in under a few minutes.
